Born in Tokyo, Kaoko Amano studied voice and music pedagogy at TokyoGakugeiUniversity. Afterwards she graduated with special honours from a postgraduate course at the Konservatorium in Vienna/Austria under Juli Chomenko.

 

She visited many master-classes, amongst others those of Heinz Zednik, Kurt Widmer and Ronald Pries and at the Ernst Krenek Institute. At the 8th Emmy Destinn Competition she won the 2nd price as well as the special price and made it to the final in many others.

 

At various engagements for opera-works she played different parts such as: Serpina (Pergolesi’s ‘La Serva Padrona’), Ännchen, Donna Anna, Musetta, Micaela, Gilda, Sophie, Adele, Witch (Purcell’s ‘Dido and Aeneas’), Cathrine (Bizet’s ‘The Fair Maid of Perth’ in its Swiss premiere), Telli (Uzeyir Hajibeyov’s ‘The Cloth Peddler’, at the Wiener Kammeroper), Esmeralda (Smetana’s ‘The Bartered Bride’, Schloss Opera Hallwyl with D. Bostock).

 

She also specializes in and dedicates herself intensively to modern music and took part in numerous world premieres of works by international composers performing for example at the festival Wien Modern or at the Klangspuren. She also performed at the Wiener Musikverein, the Konzerthaus, the A. Schönberg Center, and cooperated with the IGNM and the ÖGZM.

She also performed in many countries abroad: apart from Austria also in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Slovakia and went to Romania, Azerbaijan and Mexico, too.
